Prof. Wei E. I. Sha

Cross-Scale Computational Quantum Electromagnetics

Biography

Wei E.I. Sha received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic Engineering at Anhui University, Hefei, China, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. From Jul. 2008 to Jul. 2017, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. From Mar. 2018 to Mar. 2019, he worked at University College London as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellow. From Oct. 2017, he joined the College of Information Science & Electronic Engineering at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, where he is currently a tenured Associate Professor.

His research interests include theoretical and computational research in electromagnetics and optics, focusing on the multiphysics and interdisciplinary research. Dr. Sha has authored or coauthored 220 refereed journal papers, 173 conference publications (including 7 keynote talks and 3 short courses), 10 book chapters, and 2 books. His Google Scholar citation is 10,827 with h-index of 55.

He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Founding Chair of the Zhejiang Chapter of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. He served as Reviewers for 60 technical journals and Technical Program Committee Members of 10 IEEE conferences. He also served as Associate Editors of IEEE Journal on Multiscale and Multiphysics Computational Techniques, IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Access, and Electromagnetic Science.

Dr. Sha was the recipient of ACES Technical Achievement Award and ACES-China Electromagnetics Education Ambassador Award. Dr. Sha also received 8 Best Student Paper Prizes and one Young Scientist Award with his students.

Prof. Eng Leong Tan

Fundamental Equations of Electromagnetics from Classical to Quantum: Theoretical Formulation, Efficient Computation and Enhanced Learning

Biography

Eng Leong Tan is with the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He has published more than 130 papers and book chapters, most of which as a principal author. He has extensive research on electromagnetics and their extensions into multi-disciplinary physics including quantum, acoustics, thermal and circuits. He was the General Chair of Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium (PIERS) 2017 in Singapore. He was also the Technical Program Committee Chair for several key international conferences, including the 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting. He is a Fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy in recognition of his distinguished contributions to “Computational electromagnetics and education”. He also received the undergraduate teaching award from IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society for excellence in teaching, student mentoring and the development of mobile technologies and computational methods for electromagnetics education.

Machine Learning Applications: Antenna Design, Source Model, and Propagation

Biography

Jaeyul Choo received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic and electrical engineering from Hongik University, Seoul, Korea, in 2004 and 2006, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Korea, in 2014. He was an Associate Research Engineer with the Central Research and Development Center, LS Electronic Company, Ltd., Anyang, Korea, from 2006 to 2010. He was a Senior Researcher at the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS), Daejeon, Korea, from 2014 to 2020. In September 2020, he joined the Department of Electronics Engineering, Andong National University, Andong, Korea, where he is currently an associate professor.

Biography

Jun Heo received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ajou University, Suwon, South Korea, in 2018 and 2024, respectively. Since 2024, he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea. His research interests include tropospheric electromagnetic wave propagation, radar performance analysis, and wireless power transfer.

Dr. Olav Breinbjerg

Biography

Olav Breinbjerg was born in Silkeborg, Denmark, in 1961. He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He joined the Faculty of DTU's Department of Electrical Engineering, serving as an Assistant Professor from 1991 to 1995, Associate Professor from 1995 to 2005, and Full Professor from 2006 to 2021. From 1997 to 2021, he also led the Electromagnetic Systems Group and the DTU-ESA Spherical Near-Field Antenna Test Facility. Additionally, he founded the DTU Electromagnetic Test Centre. In May 2021, he resigned from DTU and established ElMaReCo, an independent research consultancy. Dr. Breinbjerg has held several prestigious visiting positions, including Visiting Scientist at Rome Laboratory in 1988, Fulbright Research Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, and Visiting Professor at the University of Siena in 2011 and 2022. He has supervised 17 Ph.D. students and has contributed significantly to applied electromagnetics, with a focus on antennas, antenna measurements, computational techniques, and scattering for wireless communication and sensing technologies. He has authored or co-authored over 75 journal papers, 250 conference papers, and 250 technical reports. Dr. Breinbjerg's accolades include the U.S. Fulbright Research Award (1995), the AEG Elektron Foundation's Award (2001), DTU Student Union's Teacher of the Year Award (2003), European School of Antennas Teacher of the Year Awards (2013, 2015), the Hans Christian Ørsted Award (2020), and the AMTA Distinguished Achievement Award (2023). He is the 2024-2025 AMTA Distinguished Speaker and a Fellow of AMTA and IEEE. He has also been honored as a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog

Dr. Lars J. Foged

Biography

Lars Jacob Foged was born in Viborg, Denmark, in 1966. He earned his M.Sc. in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology, USA in 1990. He is Scientific Director of the Microwave Vision Group. In 2004 he became secretary and now vice-chair of the IEEE Antenna Standards Committee (ASC). He was leader in 2016 and 2017 and now member of the Industry Initiatives Committee (IIC) of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS). He is member of the IEEE New Technology Directions Committee (NTDC). He is Board Member, teacher, and course organizer in the European School of Antennas (ESOA) since 2006. He is the 2023 president, Fellow and Distinguished Achievement Award recipient of the Antenna Measurements Technique association (AMTA). In 2023 he was awarded with the IEEE AP-S Industrial Innovation Award. He was delegate assembly member of the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EURAAP) and responsible for the Working Group on Antenna Measurements from 2009 to 2012. He was Vice-Chair of the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EUCAP) in both 2011 and 2022, Industrial Chair in 2012, 2014, 2017, and Technical Program Chair in 2016 and 2021.

He has authored or co-authored more than 300 journal and conference papers on antenna design and measurement topics and received the “Best Technical Paper Award” at the 2012 AMTA symposium and the “Best Measurement Paper Award” at the EUCAP 2021 conference. He co-authored the IET book “Post-processing Techniques in Antenna Measurement” in 2019, and the Artech house book “Modern Automotive Antenna Measurements” in 2022 and made contributions to other five books and standards and holds four patents.
