Description

Jemulpo Club was built in 1901 for the social gatherings of ex-pats living in Incheon. Jemulpo is the name of Incheon Port during the Joseon Dynasty. Gurakbu is the Japanese pronunciation of “Club.” In a space where foreigners such as Germany, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom interacted more than 120 years ago, you can now experience jazz classes and coffee drip bag-making programs with art directors' commentary.

Incheon Citizen’s House was opened to the public in July of 2021 after being used as the second house of a Japanese businessman and Incheon mayor’s residence in the 1900s. When you enter the gate across from Jemulpo Club, you’ll be amazed by the quiet and gentle modern Hanok (traditional Korean house). You can rent the main building (Modern House) and the outdoor garden (Jemulpo Garden) through the Incheon Citizen’s House’s official website. A performance with the backdrop of cool Spring and Autumn Hanok will leave a deep impression on the participants.

Cheongil Settlement Boundary Stairs the borderline between Japanese residences made in 1883 and Chinese residences made in 1884. The designs of the stone lanterns on the right and left side of the center stairs, which has a history of more than 140 years, are different because each was made in Chinese and Japanese styles. At the end of the stairs is a statue of Confucius donated by Qingdao of China, which is also on the Chinese side.

Daebul Hotel Korea’s first Western-style hotel built in a Japanese residential area in 1888. Despite the high price, the hotel’s all 11 rooms were always fully booked, with customers showing great satisfaction with beds in the room, western food, and employee who speak fluent English. However, in 1899, when the Gyeongin Line connecting Incheon and Noryang jin was built, the number of customers decreased rapidly. Later on, the place was turned into a Beijing food restaurant, Junghwalu, and has been successful for almost 40 years. In the end, however, the building was eventually demolished after 90 years. The place was restored in 2018 based on historical research. Part of the floor in the exhibition hall is glass, where visitors can check out the site of Daebul Hotel themselves.

Sangsang Platform is a new concept multipurpose cultural and tourism complex that connects the sea and Incheon’s main city center as well as the city’s past and present.
